On Wednesday, February 17, we received a call from a truck driver who was delivering a semi-truck of produce to a local warehouse. The warehouse decided they could not take all of the produce, even though it was all in beautiful condition. The truck driver did not want to see this nutritious, fresh produce thrown away, so he quickly called Bounty & Soul to see if we could meet him at the warehouse and rescue it. We hopped in our transit van, Baby Bell, and headed over to the scene. Thanks to the thoughtfulness of the truck driver, we were able to rescue almost 700 lbs of fresh broccoli florets and bright yellow lemons which will be distributed at our markets Friday, February 19 and Tuesday, February 23.
We are grateful for everyone who, like the truck driver, decides to make a phone call, to speak out, and to get involved in rescuing and honoring fresh foods. It can make an immense difference in the lives of our community and it truly takes a village.
