This spring, Bounty and Soul celebrated our annual Dig Day! Dig Day is an opportunity for community members to receive beneficial and useful plant starts for home gardening. The goal of Dig Day is to support Bounty and Soul’s mission of increasing food security by empowering community members to grow their own food. Dig Day aims to increase education of food cultivation, tender appreciation and a love for home gardening, and empower equitable access to fresh produce, flowers, and herbs.
This year, Dig Day shared an outstanding 6,000+ plant starts to over 600 families. Shared plants included vegetables, herbs, native and pollinator plants, and seeds. Also provided at Dig Day were tools for gardening success such as soil, pots, and education.
Dig Day played host to several educational booths (including Master Gardeners) and speaker presentations. Cindi Quay of Cindi’s Sacred Garden shared on how to grow and harvest your own healing garden while Heidi Berkovitz presented on how to translate those teachings into a holistic culinary experience.
We would like to extend our deepest appreciation to NC State Extension Master Gardeners who provided materials, time, and knowledge for Dig Day.
Special thanks to all who donated plant starts including MR Gardens, WNC Wild Ones, Mountain Mamas of Black Mountain and a multitude of local home growers. Finally, thanks to all the wonderful volunteers who helped make this day a joyful success!
